About Insats

Community prices, logged on the ground.

What is this?

Insats tracks what everyday things actually cost in your community, like maize flour, cooking oil and bread. Every price is shown two ways: in your local money, and in sats. That way you can see how far your money really goes from one week to the next.

What are sats?

A sat is the smallest piece of Bitcoin, the way a cent is the smallest piece of a shilling. Prices in sats don't move with local inflation, so putting the two side by side shows whether things are really getting dearer, or whether it just looks that way on paper.

How to read it

A rose tint means a price went up in local money. A green tint means it went down. The sats figure sits next to it, neutral, so you can judge the change for yourself.

Where the numbers come from

Real people log what they buy and where. Shop owners and reviewers confirm each entry before it counts, so what you see reflects what's actually on the shelves.

Your data

This page only reads prices. There's nothing to log in to and nothing here is editable. We don't track who you are or what you look at.

Low-data mode

Hides charts and images so the app loads fast on slow or costly connections.
